Aberdour Golf Course – Current Conditions
Winter course layout
Preferred lies in operation
A ball lying on a closely mown area through the green may be lifted and cleaned without penalty. Before lifting the ball, the player must mark its position. Having lifted the ball, the player must place it on a spot within 6 inches (that is not in a hazard and not on a putting green). A player may place his/her ball only and the ball is in play once placed (Rule 20-4).
We would also remind you of the local rule regarding an “embedded ball” which states;
“When preferred lies are in use, a ball embedded in its own pitch mark in the rough may be lifted, cleaned and dropped, without penalty, as near as possible to the spot where it lay but no nearer the hole (Rule 25-2 applies).”
If you have been unable to purchase a mat, these can be purchased from the Pro Shop while stocks last. There will be no option to hire mats this year due to many not being returned last winter.
Fairway mats will be in play until further notice and any decision to remove this provision will be made by the Head Greenkeeper.
We hope members and visitors will appreciate that this decision has been made solely for the purposes of protecting the course during the winter months.
Coloured flag system
A coloured flag system has been introduced to identify the position of the hole on each green:
RED – front
YELLOW – centre
WHITE – back
This system will improve the playing experience at Aberdour for members and visitors. It will assist in the battle against slow play by removing the need for players to waste time walking up to check where the pin is placed on the green.
