Prominent Aberdour Golfers and Club Achievements
Joan B Lawrence MBE
Joan Lawrence is certainly one of Aberdour’s most successful golfers. During her long membership of Aberdour Golf Club she has won the Ladies Championship on 12 occasions and represented the Club at National level and her country at National and International level. Her major achievements included:
Scottish Ladies Champion 1962 to 1964 |

Represented Scotland in 1964 in the World Team Championship and where Scotland finished runners up |
Member of the winning Vagliano Cup team in 1963 and 1965 |
Represented Scotland in the European Team Championships 1965, 1967 and 1969 |
East of Scotland Champion 1971 and 1972 |
International Selector 1973 to 1976 |
Scottish Veteran Ladies Champion 1982 to 1984 |
Regular member of the Scottish team for some 12 years and a regular in the Fife County team for over 30 years |
Won the Fife Ladies Championship 18 times, the first being in 1953 |
In her non-competitive roles, she was Chairperson of the Ladies Golf Union in 1989 and in 1995 appointed as President of the Scottish Ladies Golfing Association. She was also President of the Scottish Veteran Ladies Golfing Society from 1994 to 1995. Captain of the winning Great Britain and Commonwealth Team in 1971 and Vice-Captain of the 1970 Curtis Cup team.
In the 1999 Queen’s Birthday Honours Joan was awarded an MBE for services to golf.
She was a member of the Aberdour Centenary Committee and was elected as Captain of the Club for 1997 and 1998.
Graham R Milne
Graham has been a member of Aberdour Golf Club for over 50 years. His major golfing success was in 1965 when he won the British Boys Championship. A major distinction was never once taking 3 putts on any green throughout the Championship. As a Junior golfer of note, Graham won the Fife Boys Championship in 1963 and the Scottish Midland Counties Boys Championship in 1965. He was a regular member of the Fife County Boys Team and the Fife Men’s Team at District level. He was Fife Men’s Champion in 1970 and was Club Champion at Aberdour on 8 occasions.
In the 1980’s he was the Club’s Green Convener and Club Captain from 1989 to 1991. He also served on the Club’s Centenary Committee with responsibility for competition fixtures in 1996.

During the late 70’s Stuart joined the Scottish Professional circuit. During this time, he qualified for the British Open in 1980 and 1981; won 3 Assistant’s Tournaments in 1977; finished 16th in the Scottish Order of Merit in 1979 and in the top 150 in the European Order of Merit in 1980 and 1981.
Jean M Bald
More recently Jean has Captained the Scottish Girls’, Junior Ladies’ and Ladies’ teams for the European Championships. She has also been an LGU International selector, LGU Representative on the Scottish Ladies Golfing Association and has been President and Captain of the Fife County LGA.
She has also been both Lady Captain of Aberdour and more recently Club Captain from 2001 to 2003.
